Abstract
It's traditional to think of building a web app beginning with front end technologies such at HTML, CSS, and Javascript. The Vaadin platform flips that idea on it's head and offers solutions built around Java, a backend language.
In this session featuring live-coded examples, we'll dive into how Vaadin's web frameworks, Flow and Hilla, can help developers build feature-rich web apps. We'll explore how these frameworks put the power in Java developer's hands by either building web apps purely in Java, or by combining Spring Boot and React in a single full-stack project. We'll show how to use Vaadin's web components as the building blocks to build awesome UIs.

Lawrence Lockhart is a Developer Advocate at Vaadin where he shares the latest solutions to app development for Java developers. With over 20 years professional experience in Supply Chain, Hospitality Management, and tech, Lawrence leverages this experience into always keeping a customer-first approach to solving business problems. A lifelong learner himself, Lawrence takes great pride investing his personal time helping future techies in their career paths from his role as Senior Advisor to Code Connector to Brand Ambassador at Karat/BBM. When he's not wearing his tech hat, Lawrence enjoys cooking and spending time with family, gaming on the Meta Quest 2, and attending local church services.
Location and Time
On the second Wednesday of each month, we meet as a group to discuss the latest and greatest Java related methodologies, technologies and tools. Our meeting space is provided by Improving and is located at 5445 Legacy Dr, Suite 100, Plano, TX 75024.
Social time starts at 6:30 PM, announcements and sponsorship information at 7:00 PM, followed by the presentation which ends by 9:00 PM. Our sponsors provide free food and drink during the social hour. After the presentation has come to an end, we hold a drawing where we give away prizes that are also made possible by our sponsors.
